Partner of the Week
Welcome to another Featured Artist of the Week, a series highlighting remarkable artists creating Ordinals through the Gamma Partner Program! Today, we meet Sherie, a fine art photographer from Mombasa, Kenya aiming to push digital art in Africa.
Sherie developed a passion for photography initially due to picking up the camera to shoot for Instagram content, however this quickly shifted to fine art when she took a course on photography in Nairobi.
Sherie loves that she can represent herself and her emotions through her art and portraiture in particular. She emphasizes the importance of carefully curating what she brings to Bitcoin, highlighted in her feature in a recent Gamma blog.
In a recent conversation with Sherie, we discussed art, culture, bridging the African, and particularly Kenyan art scene to the digital realm and more. You can listen to our entire conversation in the following interview:
The Body as a Canvas
Tattoos have been around for millennia — with evidence dating back to at least 3370 BC. The word "tattoo" comes from the Tahitian word "tatau," which means "to mark." It was introduced to the English language by Captain James Cook after his voyages to the South Pacific in the 18th century. Cook's crew members were among the first Europeans to get Polynesian-style tattoos, sparking an artform that would eventually integrate into cultures around the world. Let’s take a look at the history of tattoos and their evolution.
Mutable Trees on Gamma
At its core, Mutable Trees is about education and accessibility. The project’s creators wanted to craft something that not only captured the imagination of art lovers but also served as an educational tool for those interested in the technical intricacies of Bitcoin and ordinals. With a collection size of 16,352 unique pieces, the project offers a low entry point, ensuring that as many people as possible can participate and own a piece of this evolving digital masterpiece.
What truly sets Mutable Trees apart is its unique approach to inscribing each tree’s genealogy. During a live-streamed event, the project's creators will use a custom process to inscribe each tree with its entire lineage, linking it immutably back to its Rootstock ancestor.
Mutable Trees will be coming soon to Gamma!
